New Facility Triples Square Footage, Enables Growing SoCal Medical Product Development Company to Meet Growing Customer Demand

CARLSBAD, Calif., Nov. 29—Symbient Product Development, a medical product design company that specializes in injection molding, today announced it has moved into a new facility in Carlsbad, California.

Previously located in a 5,000-square-foot facility in nearby Vista, Symbient’s new state-of-the-art 15,000-square-foot facility houses the company’s expanding base of talent and equipment.

Symbient founder and CEO Scott Castanon said the move was crucial for his 14-year-old company’s ability to keep meeting his customers’ growing demand for medical device product development and expand low-volume manufacturing capabilities.

Launched in 2004, Symbient started with two engineers and now has 10 full-time engineers on staff and seven machinists/technicians in the machine shop. Along with its staff, the company also increased its lab and assembly areas and added additional equipment.

“We had finally outgrown our Vista facility,” said Castanon. “Our new facility is literally giving us the room to grow our business and increase our ability to satisfy customer demand and expectations.”

“In our previous facility, we became limited with how many projects we could accept without risking the quality or speed of our output,” said Castanon. “We now not only have the space for our current operation, but we also have the space to add more staff and equipment.”

Symbient’s growth and positive future outlook has been consistent with trends and forecasts for the medical device development industry, especially in areas for which Symbient specializes and has expertise, such as in microfluidics and plastic medical device injection molding.

Analysts have forecasted the $3.6 billion global microfluidics market to have double-digit double digit growth during the next five years. Likewise, the global injection molded plastics market–-of which medical commands a healthy percentage—is expected to be worth $496.22 billion by 2025.
